Not resolved

We have been owners in the Mayan system for 8 years and upgraded to the Grand Mayan two years ago. Last year we went to the property in Cabo. This year we made our reservation for the Mayan Riviera 5 months in advance, paid the fee at the time we made the reservation. Just prior to this year's vacation we tried to confirm our reservation on line and found we were locked out. We called the company and were told that we had not paid the total fee for our 2010 stay! Plus, even though we paid for this year what we were billed, that said that billing was incorret so we owed yet another $200! It was impossible that we had not paid the 2010 fee because they would not have allowed us to stay in Cabo without having paid the full amount. The person on the phone insisted that we pay an additional $500 before they would allow us to check in to the resort. Because we were leaving in a few days with friends joining us, we submitted to allowing them to charge us the additional money. They would not compromise or allow that perhaps their billing was in error.

The other issue we have is getting a room in a good location in the resort. They tell us to e-mail the concierge prior to our arrival which we do and then when we check in, they tell us the rooms we requested are not availbale. In 7 years, they have not been available! We were told by an ex employee that they save the best rooms for non owners who pay the rack rate so the owners get what is left.

When we bought 8 years ago, we were also told that they were going to build in Hawaii and Argentina. Hasn't happened yet and from what we were told it isn't going to happen now that they have been bought by Whyndam.

Overall we have enjoyed the resort but get tired of fighting over the billing , the rooms, and other administrative matters. It is really the attitude that is disturbing- they are alwasy right and the customers is always wrong and "sorry, we can't help you with that".

My wife and I have a Grand Bliss Master Suite, and have been very satisfied with the times and rooms that we have booked through this ownership. We are less happy with the whole painful high pressure and costly presentations that we have attended and we can't be sure that the amount of investment we have made will ever be recovered.

That said, we have just received a proposal from a company called ERA Property Movers that offers us what would appear to be about 2 1/2 times our total investment to sell our timeshare to them. I have called and talked to these people, and there was no pressure, just an explaination of the offer. The catch is that there is a 10% transfer fee to be paid up front by us to the Mexican Government which will be reimbursed within a month when the transaction is complete. When asked, the supervisor I talked to said that they were acting on behalf of Wyndham, who is doing this in the process of taking over Grupo Mayan.

The 10% outlay scares us and looks like another money grab.

Comments welcome.

Beware of the scam artists. I get these kind of calls all the time.

I am associated with a company that helps people get rid of their timeshares. The site can be viewed at

We dont sell timeshares, you wont or get any money for them. We just relieve you of all future financial obligation.

We have been in business for 11 years giving timeshare owners some relief from the trap that they get themselves caught in. Our office number is 417-334-0892 if you have any questions.

Additionally, let me inform you all that we have not been bought by Wyndham. We do have a business relationship with them; although, we continue to be independent companies.

We proudly continue to grow as one of the most important and luxurious resorts in Mexico!

Should you have any further questions about us, we invite you to contact us through the proper channels. In that way, we can guarantee you will obtain accurate information about our company.

Geeez...this operation is getting quite a bad reputation on here. Thanks to all of you who took the time to advise other consumers about your experiences.
